HISTORY OF HSCL

Health Systems Cooperative Laundries (HSCL) is a cooperative association serving the Twin Cities metropolitan area. HSCL operates one laundry processing facility, processing 38 million lbs. of laundry annually. In June 2004, HSCL completed renovation on a "state of the art" facility located at the "old" Stroh's/Hamm's brewery site in St. Paul. The investment in the facility and new sorting/washing/drying technology has allowed HSCL to realize the full potential in servicing their customers in a more cost effective manner along with expanding the menu of services offered to their customers.

HSCL was organized in 1996 through the merger of Hospital Linen Services and Community Hospital Linen Services; cooperatives that had been operating in St. Paul and Minneapolis for more than 40 years. Each predecessor laundry cooperative had separate ownership and operated independently. The merger was consummated to gain efficiencies of scale in linen processing, purchasing, and distribution. The principal ownership of HSCL includes six major health care providers in the Twin Cities; Allina Health, Fairview Health Services, HealthEast Care System, HealthPartners-Park Nicollet, Children’s Health Care and Hennepin Healthcare.

HSCL processes approximately 39 million pounds of laundry annually for the member hospitals and affiliated outpatient facilities. The Cooperative also processes Non-Member laundry on a contract basis of approximately 1 million pounds annually.

HEALTHCARE LAUNDRY COUNCIL ACCREDITED

HSCL is proud to announce its accreditation – the industry’s highest rating on quality and safety - from the Healthcare Laundry Accreditation Council (HLAC). HSCL received their re-accreditation in July 2015.

HLAC is a non-profit organization that inspects and accredits laundries processing healthcare textiles for hospitals, nursing homes and other healthcare facilities.

HLAC publishes high standards for processing healthcare textiles and laundries must meet those high standards in order to become accredited. The decision to become accredited is entirely voluntary.

Becoming accredited makes HSCL a better company. It gives our customers peace of mind knowing their supplier is meeting the highest standards in processing healthcare textiles. We at HSCL, feel it was the right thing to do.

The HLAC accreditation process was developed with several industry groups including: American Society for Healthcare Environmental Services (ASHES), American Reusable Textiles Association (ARTA), Association for Linen Management (ALM), Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC), International Association for Healthcare Textile Management (IAHTM), and Textile Rental Services Association of America (TRSA).

HSCL is committed to providing the best quality and service possible.
